Top Class Website Layouts

Ok i just wanted 2 ask ( as my web design course nearly comes 2 an end )

What websites do u think have gr8 layouts... I asked this question in college...

My dad made a website to sell stuff off of, but found out making a website on ebay actually made more money. Here's the Black and Cyan layout we used: http://www.bluesmanshop.com/

btw, it got at the top of google results! , Search Results on google, we have like 5+ pages on those results going to out page because of the advertiseing

gonna make a site for fun sometime later, hopefully a flash cartoon site. Shops dont do good at all (even with paypal secure forms)

Well, nowadays webdesign is going the wrong way... most layouts just aren't good anymore... however, there are still some sites left. There was an awesome one i couldn't remember, but the best off the top of my head is www.db-s.net (enter the site). It's got all - simplicity, proper code, good colour scheme, etc.

Anyway, here's what i think a good layout should have:

1) Pleasant colour scheme.
2) Small size (not image-instense and expecially not GIF animations). Maybe a little flash, but not quite as much as macromedia.com
3) Proper code - when i open the source i want to understand with one look where everything is. I consider myself good at HTML, JS, and the like and when i can't understand the code, it's usually too full of garbage (like FrontPage-made sites).
4) Adaptable - layout must adapt to any resolution. That's where the w3schools design fails.
5) Proper alignment - there are some basic alignment schemes and a site shouldn't stray off too much.
6) Flexibility - a design must be easy to manipulate so you can easily place a banner or whatever. Stylesheets are recommended for this.

This site: http://www.templateshouse.com/html_templates/ is fairly good.

Also, i think designs should have originality, but it isn't a crime if they don't. I mean, half the websites with the 'good' design use a light-blue theme, like this board, or maybe a gray one. Being original is nice.

Anyway, enough ranting for now, maybe if i find a site with really 1337 design i'll post it.

The others have too much crap on the main page to see any one thing.
Too much overlap and transparency used.
I did like sony till all the drop downs started appearing all over.

While those sites are pretty to look at, I can't seem to force myself to believe that the load time is worth it. Damnit, if I go to a site, I don't want to stare at a pretty "Loading..." animation for 30 seconds... and I'm on cable!

I suggest just have a link that says.. Check our Intro later or something..
