Probably something like win2000 pro or w2k3 server, a reasonably fast computer, a very fast HDD (prob. SCSI), and at least a T3 connection.

It depends on the application. Will you be running SQL heavy scripting? My webserver is a Sun Cobalt Qube 2 from ebay. It cost about 200$ U.S. and is pretty easy to use. I plan on building a Linux box running Mandrake 9 and Apache as a web server. The important thing is HD access time. A 233Mhz proc would be fine for a personal web page. Another consideration is you upload b/w, do you have enough? Do you have a static or dynamic IP address?
A good site to check out is DSL/Cable Webserver

Lamsey, you don't need a T3, I've done it on 2mb cable before they capped uploads.
Also ran a very large warez site off several 5400 rpm drives for over six months.
There are a lot of small web sites still running on P2 processors.
