If you are in the United States, shine that laptop for sure and get a refurbished Dell laptop...you can save a ton of money that way and not have to settle for a celeron processor (terrible)...

Dell refurbed means in 90+% of cases that someone ordered it and then cancelled out of it. I just got for $900:

    P4 @ 3.0 GHz with HT
256 MB Dual Channel DDR 400
    Geforce MX 440 AGP 8X
    Soundblaster Live 5.1
Intel Canterwood i875P chipset with RAID support
48X Lite on CD RW drive
    16X variable DVD ROM Drive
    WinXP home
60 GB Western Digital Caviar 7200 RPM
    Floppy Drive
    Microsoft Mouse
    Keyboard
etc, etc. Go to their outlet and see what you can get for your hard earned dough...

    What is your budget?

well that laptop above is like $949...But im also looking at upgradeabilty... and that laptop has a 2 gb max for the ram that seem pretty good also whats wrong with the celeron processor? thanx for the help would like to here ur suggestions

Edit: max budget about $1100 to $1200

shame you cant afford an alienware...

  5. Software & Hardware   -   #5
Look at These, there at least you can get a P4, and a nice one

The celeron chip is terrible! It only has 128kb L2 cache, which basically means that the chip has to go to memory to get freqently used data. The Pentium chip has 512 kb L2 cache. The celeron is a garbage chip.

What if i got the same as the one I post but instead put a p4 chip in. i think it has the option to upgrade. heres basicly what im looking for. good ram to start off with and has a 1 to 2 gb max, 40 gb hd, cd-rw/dvd-rom combo and a good processor. I noticed that none of those dells had the combo drive or i missed it

Most of the dells have combo drives. Plus they give you i think a free year of support and warranty.

alright thanx u've been a big help i'll look into those. And i'll also note that the intel chip is terrible lol thanx again

  9. Software & Hardware   -   #9
Just go to "refurbished systems." Choose notebooks and take a look around there.

The good thing about dell is the fact that if you get a refurbed computer and don't like it you have 14 days to return it...
