    Unsure

I want to format/reinstall Windows XP. But i've never done that on my latest pc. I've read that you first need to install the SATA drivers before installing XP, but i don't know if i have the correct drivers.

On the Asus website I can only find:
'Make NVIDIA 32bit SATA RAID Driver for Windows 2000/XP/2003.'
I'm not sure if that is the driver i need because I have no RAID setup

    My PC:
    Spoiler: Show

You only need drivers for installation if your boot disk will be part of a raid setup. Otherwise it is just treated as if it was a standard IDE drive.

reinstalled winXP with all drivers. but now I sometimes can't boot.
When i turn on the PC it sounds like the fans go insane and then i hear 3 or 4 beeps.
If I restart my pc it works fine. but i get a message that the 'boot went wrong'. I have no problems when im in windows.

Only thing I noticed is that the 'Safely Remove Hardware Icon' is always in my taskbar and it lists my HD. which it NEVER did.

When it makes the 3 or 4 beeps, you need to note exactly how many and what format (for example 3 short, 1 long). This is known as the P.O.S.T. (Power On Self Test) code and it is telling you what it thinks is wrong.

Disks connected to Nvidia Sata controllers are theoretically all hot plug devices, but you can never use the Safely Remove option on the system drive since it is permanently "in use". Only some versions of the drivers show this behaviour though.

I believe that beep code signals a keyboard error on an Award BIOS.

    Maybe try swapping keyboards?

1 long 3 short means "No video card or bad video RAM".
Try reseating or replacing the video card.
