"Microsoft has released a minor update to Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP, removing the requirement for users to be validated through the company's Windows Genuine Advantage program. This means those with non-legitimate or pirated copies of Windows can now upgrade their browser."

Good point. Though I'm sure most pirates wouldn't touch IE.

maybe they want lots of people to upgrade to version 7 because

    1) its what vista uses and they want people to be able to move to vista easily.

    2) maintain market share

    3) kill off the 6 branch so its easier for them to support 7

    4) its an embarrassment when they launch a new product and after a year it has less market share then their competition firefox.

    5) any or all of the above

Umm, don't pirates know how to make their xp legitimate? Pointless move by Microsoft for most, but thankful are the stupid.

IE7 is very user unfriendly. You can't rearrange or customize buttons like what IE6 could back in the days, and the tabs bar is clock up valuable space with useless buttons at the end.

    IE7 sucks.

Seperating IE7 from windows genuine advantage can spread it widely and more persons can run it in personal PC .
