Thread: Finally... A System Upgrade!

  1. #1
Been on this damn Athlon XP 2600+ forever. Motherboard just crapped out, sata/usb/lan went bad. Also running a GeForce 6200 256MB, 1GB PC3200 Cosair.

Looking to go Core 2. Have been trying to get the Q6600 or E6850. Now I dont think my budget will allow. Did find a E6750/mobo combo at Fry's for $190 but the deal ended a day before i went Trying to stay below $400 USD.

Right now, this is what im looking at:

    Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 - $193

    2x A-DATA Value Series 1GB DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) - $48

    GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX

HIS Hightech H260PRF512DDN-R Radeon HD 2600PRO 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Ex16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported

    Subtotal: $396.96
    Shipping/Tax: $ 38.11
    Grand Total: $435.07

Probably this internal/external SATA controller card for xbox 360 modding purposes

Still trying to decide if I should try and save ~$200 (get a good proc. and cheap video card/motherboard and upgrade them later) so I can get another 360 (sold my last one)

for a budget pc that price is pretty good. the 6750 IS a good cpu. not sure what u meant by that last comment. i've just built my new pc (ready to purchase) and it came out to $1850. i recommend getting the pc first over the 360, but that's me. everyone needs a PC nowadays. the 360 can wait imho.

If I were to get one of the expensive chips, i doubt i would overclock too much. Now im thinking of getting the $85 and overclocking it.

Then i get a chance to use my Thermaltake CL-P0114 thats been sitting there for like 2 years.

    Now im leaning more towards:
    Intel Dual-Core E2180 2.0GHz (OC'd to 3.2-3.6) $94
    2x A-DATA Value Series 1GB DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) (maybe 4x later on) $48
GIGABYTE GA-N650SLI-DS4 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI (Open Box) $95
    HIS H260PRF512DDN-R Radeon HD 2600PRO 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Ex16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported (Open Box) $75

    Grand Total: $324.72

Not looking to play games in high detail so maybe a cheaper video card. I think that one has great bang for the buck. Probably get the 360 to play my games :p
