MOVIE REVIEW: Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines

So I just finished watching the third installment of the Terminator series, ‘Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines”, and let me tell you; this one’s definitely not for the kiddies. It wasn’t at all what I expected. First of all, Schwarzenegger is not in this movie. In fact, none of the original cast members from the previous two films appeared.
I have to say that it was a bold move by director Jack Horney, an unknown, himself ( at least I’d never heard of him) to use all unknown actors in his first major outing. I was also surprised to see him use an “All-Girl” (according to the credits) cast. Oddly, Most of them had names that start with the same letter for first and last names: Jenna Jameson, Stephanie Swift, Debbie Diamond, Brianna Banks, etc.
On the performances: They all seemed comfortable with the love scenes (of which there are many), and were all very emotive as far as physical movement is concerned. There wasn’t much dialogue, as to be expected in a ‘Terminator” movie, but I do have to say, the actresses could stand a bit of improvement in this area. Only time will tell if their skills and careers develop.
On the Special Effects: Here, again, I was surprised. I’d heard so much about the CGI effects in this movie, I was expecting something pretty extravagant. But again, Jack Horner kept the effects to a minimum. You could hardly even notice the effects at all, except in a few scenes where the characters assumed seemingly impossible positions for seemingly impossible lengths of time. But don’t be fooled: He’s not afraid of experimenting with new techniques, opting for an effect the credits referred to as “Hot Girl-Girl Action”. I found it quite enjoyable, really.
The wrap-up: All in all, I found the movie to be bold, daring, and a bit more than a little risqué for a big budget feature film. I’ll keep an eye out for future efforts from this filmmaker on Kazaa, where I found this one.
