As a guitar player, my point of view is heavily biased.
Dr. Steve Vai, he has done what most of mucisians dream of,
making a good living staying true to his music.
And its interesting to read his interwievs as he is a nice guy,
folks seem to take him way too serious tho, he has a lot of humour in his
music also...
Winning grammy awards, getting an honorary Doctor of Music degree from Berkley music school,
just to name a few respectable subjects..
Others to mention is naturally Brian Setzer, the Real Guitar Slinger
This guy started with Stray Cats, then had a few solo years and pulled out
the Greatest Big Band and these days, The Brian Setzer Orchestra.
The Coolest Cat in Calaxy also has few cool rewards in his pocket,
Orville H. Gibson Lifetime Achievement Award , plus some grammys...
Fellow Finn Timo Tolkki has done cool sounding albums, he may
not be a virtuoso likes of Dr.Vai but Stratovarius cd's sounds huge
Mr. Malmsteen for neo-classical sweeping and hilariously stoopid interviews,
he can play but OMG for the crap that sometimes roll out of his mouth! :x
He obviously dont like ppl "copying" his style but atm, he is
"TEH Ritchie Blackmore" wannabe, (i'd like to be able to play like Ritchie too)
Oh, found a funny YJM joke:
Sam dies and goes to guitar heaven. He is given a nice room to live in and is told
that many of the greatest musicians that ever lived are here. Hendrix, Joplin,
Morrison and a whole lot more. "Is Yngwie Malmsteen here?" he asked. "Hush.
It is not good to talk of him here." So he goes to his room and goes crazy when
he sees his room full of guitars and stacks. That night, he goes out, parties with
all the musicians and comes back blown out of his mind. The next day, he is sitting
in his room when he hears a passage being played on the guitar. He runs out
shouting "Thats Yngwie, thats Yngwie. Where is he? I want to meet him." "I told
you before, we do not talk of him here. All I can say is that he is in another
place." "But.. " "Shhh. Now go back to your room and forget Yngwie." After a few
days, Sam is walking around when once again he hears unmistakable
Yngwie. "This has gone far enough. I know that Ynwgie is here and I demand to
see him." "Well, if you really want to know." said the angel. "You hear that guitar
being played. That's God. He thinks he's Yngwie."
Dont get me wrong tho, i have a huge respect for the dude, but some
of the interviews i've seen has a great value of entertaining.
..and what about Mr. Blackmore? Anyone knows what he's been doin lately?
Apparently the last gig what im aware of happened not so long ago, Ritchie and
his wife was playing in some bup here in Norway, MedEvil music with acoustic, wife was singing.
Jim Hendrix was a Pioneer, like
Chet Atkins,
Van Halen
The Beatles,
Django Reinhardt,
this guy didnt have all the fingers working, and still he was amazing player.
...list could go on and on but i have to hop in to SS, cuz:
