I don't have messaging enabled with Kazaa only because of what I heard about the RIAA sending messages to P2P users. I know it is a scare tactic, but I just don't want to be bothered by their messages. I also have it set up so it looks like I am not sharing, since the RIAA is bearing down on P2P. We have to keep that in mind when it appears that people are not sharing. They very well could be. Right now, I am not going to worry about leeches. You will never get rid of them. There will always be people who are willing to share, though, and it is so good to see that the RIAA and the MPAA has not scared users off.Originally posted by mortician@13 July 2003 - 16:07
I know about that option [b[O][T]. But When I send A message and they don't bother answer I assume that they don't share. The P2P whole idea is that u should share and if people as far as I can see download from me I want to stop them.
Argg, Mateys! :pirate:
Hmm... Can't believe that "I'm going slightly mad" hasn't been taken already. I share over 1500 files, and as I've said before, I find a lot of them awful, and a lot of them unviewable. I share them because a lot of people download them, and the more hi-speed sources people have the better. So if the RIAA is scaring you off of sharing your files than fine, they've already won. I'm fighting until the end. It's like what Heston said "from my cold dead hands..."
Off topic...

90% of my incomming messages occur while I'm sleeping. If you really really really don't want them uploading from you, cancel everyone that doesn't look like they're sharing, that's the best you can do. But I can't see why it would be worth it.

Give every one a fair chance, but if your sharing over a 1,000 files as I am and have new stuff ready to put up for sharing then you have to stop the leeches.
The more people are encouraged to share, the more new files we will see on Kazaa and other p2p programes. If people can download without contributing then people will not put new files up for sharing.
I always check kazaa lite masters or supreme beings to see if their sharing, I always check at least 3-4 times and if the search is negative, then it's asta la vista to that download.
Even if a person has only the 1 file for sharing at least they are entering into the spirit of p2p. As for the RIAA, if I have something that I want to share, then I'll share it.
Same here. Once, before all this crap started, I cancelled a guy who didn't appear to be sharing. Then just a few minutes later, when I searched for a file, I found that he was a user who had it. Now, it's possible it was someone else with the same username, but his name was pretty unusual, so my guess is that it was him (or her, for all I know).Originally posted by [B

I disabled receiving messages just the other day because I was getting all these "go to such-and-such site for porn" spam. I hate that! Plus I realized it had been like a 2 weeks since anyone else had sent me a message, so what was the point of keeping it enabled anyway? *shrug*
If you don't keep it enabled & you look for 'rare' stuff then you won't be able to share rare files with each other easier, without the message function I would not have all the files I have today, it pays to ask as I have done some pretty good trades on FTPs/aim due to messaging on kazaa(why not block the spam users from messaging you?)
I tried that but they're either using proxies or something or now there are a ton of them out there.![]()
Another thing, I'm one of those people who downloads/uploads the most when I'm in bed. I don't know how many times I've gotten up and found a message that was sent like 5 hours before.![]()
