Im sorry but 3 of my friends have hp and they have all been in the shop at least twice in ONE year! ive had my dell for 3 years and it has NEVER been in the shop..and they have twice the ram and proc speed and mine can outclock theres neday...i would try to get around 800 dollars..you can get a decent dell deminsion NEW 2400 for that...Dell Computers Thats the full list of computers they offer...Heres one that i customized It has a PENTIUM 4! buy a 256MB upgrade..which will give you in the high 300 MB of ram...for about 30 bux TRUST ME! The system you configured is okay; I would definately not get that system and get a refurbished Dell Dimension 8300. You definately want dual channel DDR 400 and an 800 Mhz front side bus, an Intel i875P Canterwood chipset that supports the hyperthreading that you chip is capable of, etc.
Then you can get optimal performace for the same price. The system you configured was, what? 675? Single channel RAM? P4 @ 2.2? Not that great, in my humble opinion...

    Here is a good alternative:

    SYSTEM SPECIFICATION
    Dimension 8300 (System Identifier EJBBRP9Z)
    Dell Dimension 8300 Mini-Tower: Pentium® 4 Processor at 2.6GHz with 800MHz front side bus
    System Price $844.00
    Promotion Discount ($125.00)
    Discounted Price $719.00
Memory: 256 MB DDR 400MHz SDRAM (2 DIMMs)
    Floppy Drive: No Floppy Drive
Hard Disk Drive: 60 GB EIDE Hard Drive (7200 RPM)
    Video: 64MB GeForce4 MX 420 with TV-Out
    Modem: 56Kbps Data/Fax Modem
Operating System: Microsoft® Windows XP Home
    CD Read-Write Drive: 48X CD-RW Drive
    DVD Drive: 16X DVD-ROM
    Logitech PS2 Mouse
    QuietKey Keyboard

This system comes with software also, but I omitted that because it is trivial.

    Check out Dell's refurbished site:

    for desktops

    and

    for laptops
