Look at the shadow, instead of the figure. Imagine the swinging leg moving either in front of or behind the straight one. It's quite straightforward to get the dancer to change direction. Once you've done it a couple of times and trained yourself it's easy.
My "natural" is clockwise unless I make the effort of spinning it in the opposite direction.

Use a visual aid, like. Rotate your finger, pointing downwards counter-clockwise in front of the screen. I got her to switch direction for someone else that way.I see her spinning clockwise also, I can't get her to spin the other direction
