Do you have an antenna/aerial... outside the house?
If so, by a signal booster ($15-$25) and connect it.

i found back in the poor days that speaker wire can really get the job done as it's so flexible

just take some speaker wire, if it isn't already, strip one end, insert one of the wires (doesn't matter which side) into where you normally plug in your cable, and just move the wire around until you get good reeception. the benifit of this is you can tack the wire to the wall in those oddball positions a regular antennea can't achieve
i have crappy bunny ears hooked up through a vcr
Try dalbani.com they have the good ones that have fine tuning, the coaxial out needed to hook up to tv or vcr and best of all the amplifier booster is built in. There are many to choose from...
