    Mr. Stadler says this to Dagna after she complained of what the State Science Institute reported in the newspaper about Rearden Metal, lol, because he statement indifferently denounced Rearden Metal, implying its long-term fragility without directly claiming it in order to appeal to the popular opinion that Rearden Metal is a tool for the greedy and anti-social Hank Rearden to make lots of money in complete disregard for social safety or the stability of the steel-based economy.

    Oh OK...makes sense now. I was trying to figure out who the "child" was. That book should be required reading for everyone...
