    Well ya know if you had any common sense you would know that software firewalls can not nearly compete with hardware based firewalls (routers). Or maybe your just too indigent (broke) to afford one.

    Thats not always true. If you have a fairly low budget or cheap router then most of them will come with software.

    A "real&#39; router does not need software to operate efiiciently because its hardware based configuration is built in. Most good routers dont even need drivers.

    Cisco routers are a perfect example of those types however there are many more like those.

    A good router is one that will run on any o.s. If you go and buy a 1oo dollar router and it has system requirments or it gives you software that has to be installed on only windows based o.s. then the router is a piece of crap, unless you dont need the software in order for it to run.

    My router would be the type that any business or serious network user like myself would use, packet filtering, port opening and closing, stealth, ect. can be configured through telnet or web based configuration. Either way no software is required.
