I recently had my hard drive partitioned and decided to get rid of it and merge that space with my main partition. For the most part everything went well but my computer is displaying 212GB instead of 232GB. Diskeeper & the windows disk management utility both report the correct drive size.

Edit: forgot to mention, this is in vista ultimate.

Possibly a reserved "backup partition" for recovery hidden somewhere?
Is it a store bought computer or custom assembled?

Was the old merged partition 20GB, perchance?
What software did you use to perform the merge?

Yea whenever you install a new OS they take up about 4% of hidden storage space. Even though your suppose to have 232 your OS will say its less, expect that. I don't have Vista but it's OS may require more hidden storage space.

It has something to do with the partition(s).
I am guessing that using Windows' disk management utility you converted both partitions to dynamic, and then created an extended volume.

Anyways, I don't know of a way to get the space back, other than a reformat.

Use partition magic 8.5 by symantec to safely get your space back without having to reformat everything. I wouldn't of used Acronis unless your dual booting multiple os's.
