Hey,

I am thinking of getting a new graphics card for my pc but have no idea which one/ones to look at. I am looking for a pretty decent one but it doesn't have to be the latest all singing all dancing one as I don't fancy forking out 300 nicker plus. Anybody have any suggestions, I have no real idea about the whole lingo involved in the cards so I may have to ask for some explanation. Thnaks in advcance for any help and advice you can give me.

Thanks

Zero

if u give ur budget it would help giving out some recomendations, also what sorta stuff your gonna be doing with your pc, what games etc, also any future expansion you would like, and also if ur mobo has an agp port or not, most new ones should, (2/3 years)

edit: also also ur system setup, to match a card for it, as there is no point in getting a card your system wouldnt make the most of.

Hiya Livy, I had a feeling it wasn't gonna be a case of just saying 'which one?'

Probably looking nearer the 100-150 quid mark, but that is only off the top of my head, depend on what the going rate is for a reasonable one

Ok I have a P4 2.53, 512 DDR Ram, NiVidia GForce 4MX 420, no idea about the agp port thing sorreeee

Hoping to increase the Ram and possibly...eventually upgrade the motherboard.

Mainly for general use, playing games, watching video that kinda thing

if you're looking for outright performance, then livy's recommendation is probably best.
however, there are some complaints still with the driver support for radeon cards.

you may want to consider sticking with an nvidia based card, such as this, this or this

i'd say the last one is probably the best of the three, however, it's getting towards the upper range of your budget

What is the problem with the card you have?
Mainly for general use, playing games, watching video that kinda thing
Does it not do what you want already?

It stuggles at times with some of the newer games and such. I would also like to have something in place in anticipation of some of the soon to be released games coming out.

p.s. Cheers 3rd Gen, you can go now Thanks mate

Livy's got a good idea. But if you have the time, try to score a 9500 NON PRO Sapphire Radeon. It is a 128 MB 4 pixel pipeline card that has 4 idle pixel pipelines that can be activated via software. I got mine for $140 and it performs like the 128 MB Radeon 9800 Pro.

Omega provides the hack incorporated into the install of his drivers.

You can read about how to do this
