Back to the subject, I give it a 4. If you custom built it I think you can do a just a little better than that. But overall it does seem like a pretty decent pc.

4!! ouch thats a bit harsh. I reckon about a 7. Theres probably nothing it can't handle, but it could handle it faster.

Lamsey...deserves a raise for making so many informative pinned topics.
What, all 2 of them? [/b][/quote]
Yes, all 3 of them.

Views last time I checked. That means that many folks have gained computer knowhow through Lamsey's articulate pinned topics. I have looked throught other pinned topics, and not seen such detail, and Lamsey's are truly useful and informative.

..........im just trying to get a good idea of how good this pc is ,I built it my self and i was thinking of building a new one and using this as a server or a second pc.......any comments or improvements would help..........flame away lol........
Case = 7
7 for the Generic case, -1 for black (metallic guy myself ). Not sure about the flower window so -1, +1 for the neon (+1 for blue as well ), 2 Case fans is around normal so no change.

Graphics = 8
GeForce cards automatically get an 9 , 5200's not that new so -1. Dual VGA is not necessary unless you have two monitors & dual-screen capability so nothing extra for that.

CPU = 7
An Athlon is not a Pentium 4 so I can't give you anything about 8 533FSB is not a bad standard, so -1 for the 226.

Motherboard = 8
Best make can be debated, but I'm an Asus man so 7 USB 2.0 is good to have so +1, Audio's not that bad but you could have done with a stand-alone soundcard so no change.

RAM = 9
You don't really need the top of the range RAM for stuff - 512 is good enough for most operations. The only thing I can see you needing more for are 3D animation packages e.g. Maya

Hard Drives = 7.5 (Average of 7 & 8)
Western Digital are good so +1, 7200's a good speed so +1. 30GB is not that good so 5, 6 for the 60GB

Broadband = 8
At least it ain't 56k

Speakers = 8
I can't dispute Altec Lansing that much Even better is that they're surround - I'd give 10 for 6.1 (top-end), 9 for 5.1 - 8 for 4.1 then

LAN Card = Undecided
A LAN card's a LAN card - Good that you got 10baseT though, but I just hope you didn't buy it as a LAN card - you can get a 10baseT Ethernet network card that does the same job for around a tenner

Total = 62.5/80
so I'd give it...7.8

3rd gen noob, ol pal, I think Lamsey's pinned topics, although parts are copied and pasted, you must admit that all information is recycled.

And add to that that if Lamsey is not profiting from these pinned topics, and also the fact that he directly credits his sources...he acts out of kindness to help those 1st gen noobs out there...lol

$150 is not bad at all, I must admit.

But if I were you I would not waste all of your money on a Radeon 9800...just see if you can find a 9500 with the same PCB, it then can be converted into a 9700/9800 (depending on who you ask, mine says 9800 in adapter properties) by activating the 4 idle pixel pipelines. Before I upgraded my video card I did some research and used the knowledge of some members of the X Bit labs forum members who informed me of the 9500 tweak. You can take advantage of my research by looking Here and here

Omega makes this driver hack available in the install of his ATI drivers, and it really works.

Good luck with your system.

oh-oh

another bloody anti-amd user here

come on, don't you think you should look at more than just the fsb speed?
i mean, i have an athlon 2700
it runs at a clock of 2.17GHz with 333MHz fsb, however, in the majority of gaming benchmarks it will humble a P4 2.53GHz with fsb of 533MHz

think about it...
