Good guide. I was wondering if anyone could help with a problem i've been having with my anti-virus software. i cannot seem to run any piece of anti-virus software for more than about 5 seconds before it closes. i have tried norton which worked for a while but then the problem started, then i tried McAfee which installed but couldn't even run once, then i tried AMG and it could not even install. If you know anything about this could you either post here or pm me.

i don't know much about viri(?) but this sounds suspiciously like a anti-anti-virus virus - try an online scanner

A couple things to take note of...
The following is incorrect under security tests...

Download a port scanner which tests your systems ports for vulnerabilities.

Leak Test is a tool to see if your firewall leaks and does not mess with ports. Basically you tell your firewall to block it and if it can get through, you have a leak in your firewall.

This guide just keeps getting better and better.

thanks everyone for the info (and the corrections) , I think the list now has enough online scans and security checkers so I probably won't be adding any more unless they offer something new / better than the existing. Any new info about antivirus/security programs is obviously still welcome along with any other related tools.

This is SUCH a F************************* BULL SHEAT !!! And they call themselves an independent AV site. Their recommendations and reviews are so unreasonbale... Dont trust this site. The AVG review is so based on made up .. whatever. They talk about hting that AVG does not have and it DOES have them all. God, I so pissed off. Never was able to find a descent Antivirus site. they are all so... disinformative.
