Thread: Antivirus Software

  1. #51
I figured this would probably be the best place to post my two questions.
    1) I read that running two firewalls at the same time is bad because the two can conflict with each other. Is running two AV programs similar to this? What about running an AV program and using a web-based scanner (like some of the ones posted in this thread)?

    2) I have McAfee Virus Software and everyday it tells me that i need to update my subscription because it has been a year since i bought it. So it gives me three options: Purchase, Cancel, Help.
When i click on "Cancel," it disappears. When i click on "Purchase," it also disappears. What do I do?

Most Ant-virus applications can be renewed easily by un-installing and then reinstalling. Pc-cillin and norton have this glitch.

Heres a link for NOD 32

    Recently installed NIS 2004 Pro.
Caused all sorts of problems and crashes as well as running like a P100.
Decided to uninstall - crashed during uninstall.
Tried to uninstall again - message "You can only uninstall installed packages".
Tried system restore - failed - script blocked by symantec script blocker.
Tried to manually uninstall msi scripts - message "this script can only be run from setup"

What it boils down to is that NIS is a pile of crap. I now have to re-install my system because the tossers at Symantec can't write a simple install/uninstall script.

My advice - stay well clear.

Wonderfully explained the best I've seen on any media outlet.

I downloaded Norton firewall from Kazaa and had lots of probs somehow hacked in to my firewall and kept turning my comp off and sending something thaty spiked my downloads so that they were no longer available to finish downloading. I did the security check after installing and all seemed fine. Any ideas how they broke in?

    Yes I'm afraid I do.
You don't have adequate multilayered security, unsafe net habits & a lack of knowledge.
