How unusual to have a synopsis accompany a one-off post.

As the pathetic anime nerd, I will vouch for one aspect Darker than Black that has stuck with me since first viewing.

The unique power each character possesses cannot simply be used for free. Unlike most super hero genres, each use of their powers requires compensation (remuneration is the show's choice synonym). The actual payment is unique to the character, and it's usually related to some tragedy they had in his or her life. Maybe some other work has done something similar, but this is the only example I have ever seen.

The overall quality was probably par, but I remain fixated on that twist.
