I started filesharing with Bearshare and then Shareaza about 6 years ago. Shareaza introduced me to BitTorrents, so I quickly got a better tracker and joined BitSoup and TorrenTit. I've been a member at Bitsoup for almost 3 years where I have a buffer of almost a terabyte. I then joined Demonoid a couple of years ago, about the time I bought a home theater system and discovered my passion: I love 5.1 surround music. Jazz, blues, rock, classical, new age, pop, country, it doesn't matter--I love it all. Demonoid had the best selection I have ever seen, and I downloaded nearly everything they had. Also, I've always had a thing for quirky old movies and have been building a collection since VHS and cable TV was all that was available. I also like current feature films, but I hate watching them in a theater. For Christmas, I got a networked media tank that plays nearly every sort of media file, and I have been madly downloading and watching 720p movie rips as the Popcorn Hour plays Matroska package files on my HDTV. I usually TiVo my favorite TV shows, but I'm fascinated by the History and Discovery Channels. I have tried to exhaustively download all shows about volcanoes, earthquakes and tsunamis.
My participation in forums has previously been admittedly weak. I am a professional person in a scientific field, married--no children, and I own a small business with about a dozen employees. I have always felt reluctant to open up in a public forum that deals with issues which bring forth wealthy political adversaries (anti-p2p) who try to manipulate the legislative system in order to inflict painful legal consequences. I joined FST a few months after TorrenTit was shut down in order to follow its restoration progress. I lurked around sporadically for quite a while, but didn't post much at all. I was happy with the content of BitSoup and Demonoid. Then Demonoid was shut down and didn't come back like all the previous times. I had to find a substitute, so back to FST I came. I finally broke down and asked for an invite--and got it. Easy! I subsequently asked for a couple of others. Some I got, some not. I asked for some advice and got several friendly, helpful replies. Someone else asked for some advice. I suggested something and he came back later and said it really helped. Great! So I started looking for threads I might learn something from or be useful in and could maybe throw in my 2 cents. Lo and behold, no jackbooted thugs have broken down my door, and no black helicopters have landed in the parking lot. So, I'm no longer shy about posting in this or any other forum and, in fact, I'm enjoying it. I would be even more comfortable in a private forum where no outside guests are allowed. By the way, I've never posted in any of the XXX forums, but I have nothing at all against them, and I might someday.
Some of my other interests include downhill skiing, bicycling, boating, sports cars, politics, and I can play the piano.
I'd better close this post because I think I've gone well over 150 words. Thanks for setting up this thread this way. If you think I'd be a good match for any of your invites, please let me know. I'll be glad to furnish any documented ratios, speeds, etc. if you'd like. I have a reasonably fast static IP at the office, and a dynamic IP that is nearly as fast at home. They are both always seeding, day and night.
Thank you for this opportunity to introduce myself in such a unique thread and for considering me for a high level invite. If you need any more information, please contact me.
