The network between vista and xp

I want setup the network between my laptop and my pc but the problem my laptop is windows vista and the pc is windows xp .
can any one tell me what can I do, please ?

make sure they're in the same workgroup firstly. you need to set your LAN connection in vista to 'private' and enable network discovery at the very least. if you want to share files you need to enable that option as well.

i had to go through hell to get mine somewhat working. let me know if you need more help.
