What's the difference between a portable application and a normal one?
For example, I've download Dreamweaver CS3 portable and wasn't too sure if there was any difference because if theres not, I won't change anything.

Portable apps can be run without the need for installation and store all settings locally (ie. ini file)

.....And hence intended for use from a portable device (USB flashdrive, external HDD, etc.) but can also just be used simply without an installation.

Sometimes portable appz don't have as many features due to their size reduced and might now work properly such as when you make an OS like Windows Vista portable.

Portable Windows and operating systems are purposefully compressed..
But in case of other apps..say Nero/FF/or as that matter any other.. you always get full functionality
