Ok i want to take a small portion of a movie from the mpeg and save it as a small clip. Is there a free mpeg program out there?

try TMPGEnc.
click File, MPEG Tools, then Merge & Cut.
i think you can figure out the rest, it's easy.
i don't know what is this, but i've been told this could do wonders, just don't know how:

there is an program called "vcdcutter" that is a million times
faster then tmpeg for cutting mpegs. look for it. trust me.

I used to use vcdcutter yrs ago and its shit and dodgy half the time..but then again it may have improved by now.Myself i either use virtual dub or tmpgenc there both good all round progs.

M2-edit will do it as well..it can be dloaded from kazaa along with the serial that cant be posted here...its far easier and faster than tmpgenc..

yrs ago? well windows95 is shitty and dodgy by todays standards.
what movie files were you splitting yrs ago anyway. movie downloads dont go
that far back.
i have been using vcdcutter for months and have had no problems. not 1.
and it smokes tmpeg for speed. and virtualdub wont output mpegs, maybe with a plugin.
