uT 1.7.6 is not a beta therefor it's reasonable to assume it is 'safe'. Always updated to new versions..never any probs.

New version may be related to this:

Please do not PM me for invites. Thx.

just update it, and stop the torrents on the crappy trackers where it's not allowed... if everybody does this you will see it enabled very fast
You won't actually those sites that security means more to them then the cash flow will do all the testing that is required before allowing any client.

I would bet good money it is entirely related to that - which means all the people who are using 1.6.1 because they're afraid of whatever little piece of FUD they believe in are now opening themselves up to DoS attacks.

1.7.6 released to fix a remote crash bug. Also fixed 3 other minor issues while we were at it. Barring any other security issues before the release of 1.8, this will be the last 1.7.x release.

This crash bug affects 1.6 and 1.6.1, as well as all 1.7.x releases. No update will be released for those branches. Upgrading is strongly recommended.

    2008-01-15: Version 1.7.6 (build 7859)
    - Change: do not use adapter subnet to identify local peers
    - Fix: double-clicking to open items in RSS releases tab
    - Fix: remote crash bug (affects all 1.6.x, 1.7.x, and 1.8 builds released to date)
    - Fix: limit local peers if disk is congested

this is good reasone to upgrade to 176

also if u want still use waffles tracker then u will must upgrade to 176, after January 19th they will banned all utorrent 16x and 17x version

Waffles users using µTorrent must update to 1.7.6 by Jan-20-08. The sooner, the better.
There is a bug that will potentially allow a user/agency to crash your client. There are rumors that it may be even possible to execute code.

You can read more on this issue here: http://torrentfreak.com/bittorrent-clients-vulnerable-to-remote-dos-attack-080117/

"The uTorrent team state the flaw affects all older uTorrent versions 1.6 and 1.7.x. too but have been quick to respond, releasing a new build - uTorrent 1.7.6 (build 7859) which has fixed the issue."

You may download the updated client here: http://download.utorrent.com/1.7.6/utorrent.exe
You can also check for updates within the client itself, using Help -> Check for updates

"So far, the problem appears to affect these clients:

    - BitTorrent 6.0 (build 5535)
    - uTorrent 1.7.5 (build 4602)
    - uTorrent 1.8 (alpha 7834)"

After January 19th, non-updated clients will be banned.

fucking FINALLY, a good reason to upgrade. Now all the dumbasses who think uTorrent 1.7 "spies" on you and reports your activity to the RIAA can shut the fuck up.

The steam engine isn't broken.. why should it be fixed? ...utorrent isn't being "fixed"; it's being improved. You are entitled to your paranoia, but don't act like you have any rational basis for it.
Can you please provide me a link or detailed description in their changelogs showing anything improved or fixed that hasnt already been fixed?
Could just be me but in the changelog I seen the only thing fixed/improved was the fix for the crashes which again I beleive was already fixed about 3 updates back.
    Again could be wrong.
well for starts 1.7.5 is vista compatible; 1.6.1 isn't. Then there's the previously mentioned denial of service attacks. Why do you think 1.6.1 is better?
