the vast majority of what i download is UK TV, UK music and European and Asian films. i hate Hollywood with a passion and consider US TV to be mostly garbage, except for a few shows which i like.
it may be hard for an american to understand that there is a world outside of the US, but there is, and the quality is often much higher than the trash produced by hollywood. i dont listen to much american music either.
as i mainly use british torrent sites, ive been led to believe that US-based sites are where the dangers lie. perhaps thats wrong, but i feel safer not using sites hosted in the US.
the country i live in has just introduced some very harsh anti-file-sharing laws, which can result in up to 1 year in prison if prosecuted and found guilty, so i would like to be cautious (i am british, but live abroad).
But as I stated, it doesnt matter where the site is hosted...it matters where the file is hosted!
Torrenting =files not hosted on site!
Meaning, you can be on a server based in sweden or romania or whathave you but still have peers connecting from anywhere in the world. When you download something, click the peers tab and you will see plenty of people connecting to you from "anti-filesharing" countries. Any of which can be agents.
It doesnt matter where the site is hosted, its where the peers connecting to you are from.
Not going on US hosted sites does absolutely nothing for you, as you will still be connected to peers from the US for your torrents...meaning still "in jeopardy"
Your paranoia is unjust and pointless as its not the sites you need to worry about...just the peers.
