The Best Movies Nobody Has Heard Of

Again, many similar plot points but I thought Mulholland Falls sucked.
As neo-noir homages, they both pale in comparison to Chinatown but L.A. Confidential is a very strong movie and worthy of it's rep.

Dunno why I'm rambling on about these films- they are hardly unknown- might be the lack of caffeine.

Chinatown made me think of Jack of course and that made me think of Five Easy Pieces and one of my all time favorite scenes.(it also made me think of Polanski and The Fearless Vampire Hunters but that's another story).

OK, Bigger Than the Sky came in.
Sadly (or not), the disk glitched out about 20 minutes into the film (I get my movies from the library and many of them are scratched/damaged in ways that lead me to believe that some people have yet to grasp optical media technology) and I almost felt a sense of relief.
Can't say I'd been engaged at all.
To be fair though I'm going to try again and see if I can't get into it (I gave Gods and Monsters two tries and that is my limit).

Ah, what hath Quentin Tarantino wrought?
Despite some gaping plot holes (how did he make a full head mask in under an hour and how do the Tremor Brothers drive around in their Mad Max get up without attracting the attention of every Barney Fife in America?), the film was an adrenaline charged guilty pleasure.
A cameo by Jason Bateman was an unexpected bonus.

In the extras section, Ben Affleck states that this is the first time he's been killed in a movie...guess he's buried the memory of Hollywoodland where he dies multiple times, Roshimon-style.
Finally, can anyone tell me what kind of accent Andy Garcia was going for?

You mentioned Tarantino so I thought I'd throw in Boondock Saints(1999) which employs the same kind of non-linear storytelling as Reservoir Dogs or Pulp Fiction but takes it to a whole other level.
Clever, funny, and extremely violent,it tells the story of two Irish- Irish brothers (Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus) who after gettng into a brawl in their favorite bar with a couple Russian gangsters decide they are on a mission from God to eliminate criminals from the city.
Along the way they are pursued by a gay F.B.I. agent(an awesome Willem Dafoe).
The release of "The Boondock Saints" was sidelined in 1999 because of the Columbine massacre but the film has since attained cult-like status.
Get the unrated version if you have a chance but be prepared for almost non-stop profanity and some real gore(also one of the greatest and strangest gun battles I've ever seen).

Kontroll. Hungarian film set completely in the Budapest Metro. Very dark but really good.
