I was surprised to see that my library has this in stock...should be here today.

Shattered Glass- Hayden Christensen, Peter Sarsgaard, Chloe Sevigny.
Fascinating true story of Stephen Glass, a wunderkind DC journalist for The New Republic in the mid to late nineties. In his brief career, Glass went from fact-checker/researcher to star writer on the basis of exclusive stories filled with amazing details and twists.
Particularly easy since it turned out he was completely making them up.
Historically significant because he was brought down by Forbes Online and this is considered the first major coup by an internet based journalist.

The movie totally succeeds in making a rather dull profession absorbing- much like All The President's Men- and the acting and tone is spot on.
The darling of the independent film circuit, Shattered Glass did poorly in general release (I'd never heard of it before)- probably because there are no robots or sex (or robot sex).
    Recommended.

    Weirdsville (2007).
This Canadian indie film riffs on all it's betters from the past decade and fails to match them...but it's good fun to watch it try.
The plot is beyond description- there are junkies, Satanic cults, lethal icicles and midgets in chainmail (!)- but the actors try hard and are likable enough to carry it off.
    Mostly.
It certainly made Canada look more interesting than I remember...

The plot ,though much too complicated to easily explain...
Spader is fantastic, he has smarm down to an artform. He and Stephen Dorff would make a great pair.
Somehow, you neglected to mention the fight between Charlize and a very fit Terri Hatcher (both in skintight costumes)...not sure how that slipped by.

The film is fun to watch and has a great soundtrack.
The star of the show (and this film has a stellar cast...Nurse Ratched??!!) is the screenplay.
I almost suspect that Hertzfeld started at the end and worked backwards.

    An excellent recommendation, Idol.

I thought Shattered Glass, since it has Hayden Pannetiere Christensen, was a failed movie in just that.

I cannot stand that 'actor'. He was better than usual in SG but he is still so repulsively mundane even that wouldn't make me recommend the film.

Did you see the 60 Minutes interview with Stephen Glass (it's included on the DVD)?
I thought Cristensen emulated him quite closely.

Spader has long been one of my favorite actors A contemporary of Robert Downey Jr. but very much a Yin to his Yang .
Although I admire RDJ's acting I always preferred Spader. To me Downey plays to the heart while Spader always goes straight for the gut.

If I mentioned the cat fight it would have spoiled it (and I agree Teri Hatcher never looked better.Check out The Cool Surface to see more of her in a bad movie or Heaven's Prisoners to see all of her in a good one).

The only really interesting parts of Canada are Montreal and Quebec City but you can much find midgets in chainmail most anywhere..

If you want a really good ,weird Canadian film I could recommend Roadkill(1990) by Bruce McDonald(a very talented director) or for something more serious Jesus of Montreal(1989) by Denys Arcand(ditto).

Sherman never put Hayden Pannetiere with Christensen again .This is your last warning.
