I like the Stephen Frears movies too Cantankerous.
They remind me of Bill Forsyth stuff(Local Hero,Gregory's Girl etc being some of my most fondly remembered films)

Of the rest the only one I didn't like was The Burbs.
I'd say it ranks it up there with Dragnet and the one he did with the dog as being the worst Tom Hanks movie ever.

LOL I get the same reaction every time I post a message stating I like The Burbs. I really liked it, but to each his/her own another good movie you might like is Brassed Off.

The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys (2002)-Emile Hersch, Kieran Culkan, Jena Malone, Jodie Foster and Vincent D'Onofrio.
14 year old boys in a Southern Catholic school battle against a hated nun (Foster) and the forces of growing up by escaping into a comic book world.
Live action segues into animation (by the creator of Spawn) which reflects their inner story and conflicts.

Not at all what I expected- the story is deeper, the acting is better and the animation more relevant than the comic book DVD cover advertises.

I enjoyed this film with a Black Cow- A&W root beer over Haagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream.
    A perfect pairing.

Can't say enough how much I loved the movie clocker.
Maybe largely because I pine for the days when "serious trouble(still) beat serious boredom."

As splendid and painful as adolescence itself.

I know you're talking about the 2002 version with Heath Ledger but the 1939 version is really the best.

Think the 1955 remake called for some reason Storm over the Nile is superior too.

For me still one of the greatest movie stories but the most recent version lost the spirit of "nothing before honour" necessary to really make it work.
