    Slither (2006)-Horror/gore/comedy.
Nathan Fillion (Firefly/Serenity) is the Chief of police in a small town overrun by alien lifeforms.
Extremely gooey and sporadically funny, I'm really surprised this film didn't do better than it did...fucking Meet the Spartans made more money.
I'll give anything Fillion is in a look ( just like Jason Lee) and this film has my second unexpected cameo by Jenna Fischer in under two weeks (she's married to the writer/director).

Recommended by my favorite film reviewer- Brian Prisco, who writes "Hangover Theater" at Pajiba.com.

Nathan Fillion's great but for some reason he seems to be the touch of death to projects.
Hope he finds some success soon because he really is one of my favorite actors.
Didn't realize he was in Saving Private Ryan til I just checked out his profile on IMDB

Spellbound- a documentary following eight contestants through the 1999 National Spelling Bee.
The kids are charming (with one exception, IMO), the parents range from hyper-competitive (one kid gets grilled on 7000 words a DAY!) to pretty laid back and the actual competition is more gripping than I would have imagined.

OK, the material isn't earthshaking and the outcome doesn't much matter- except to the contestants and their families- but this documentary does just what it's supposed to- open a view into a world you're not familiar with.

Did you know that the final is covered live on ESPN?

The finals our national spelling bee gets major network coverage too clocker.
I watched a bit of it and Scripps and they left me both admiring and feeling sorry for the kids.

I've heard of spellbound but I've never seen it.I can recommend another spelling bee movie though.

Akeelah and the Bee,a good little movie that suffers from a bad title, tells the story of 11 year old girl who lives in South Central Los Angeles. Akeelah is a gifted student who must overcome personal challenges and the prejudices within her community in order to make her way to the National Spelling Bee.
The film is both funny and touching-a great movie to watch with the whole family.

    Bad Boy Bubby (1993). http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106341/

A truly unique Australian film. Not sure how obscure it is really. A few years ago I caught on late night tv and was simultaneously appalled and mesmerised by it. Stumbled upon it again the other day and re-watched it yesterday. Very impressive indeed.

Out-fucking-standing performance from Nicholas Hope. Sick, funny, profound and harrowing.

Watch it or do something else

    Brick.
Classic film noir down to it's toes, this film incorporates every beloved meme from the genre (molls, broads, corrupt authorities, the jaded much harrassed hero and a plot so murky it's almost impenetrable)...the difference being that everyone is 17 and still in high school.
What could- no...should- be unintentionally hilarious, turns out to be fairly interesting and engaging.

I recommend it simply because some of these people are going to show up in mainstream movies pretty soon and it's fun to see where they started.
