but bluray writers have halved in price over the last 12 months, so won't be long before they're as cheap as dvd writers
...and how long will that be? Next year.
I think not.
I can get a decent DVD burner for $30. BR burners are about $300.
I've seen BD-R SL for $10 and BD-RE SL for $14.
I can get DVD+/-R SL for 20 cents.
Tell me how long again?
Hopefully write speed will eventually be able to go past 12x.
At the current 2x-6x speeds, burning BRs will absolutely suck. Hell, it will suck at 12x.
Needless to say, I wouldn't want a BR burner if it dropped to $200 if it's only going to at 2x.

im not mad cuz bluray truly does just have better quality
but i hate sony, so much, and it all just vindicates the ps3. it sucks. sorta.
i just think that toshiba gives up HD DVD a bit early.
$ony will be able to raise the price they want.
ya, blu-ray is better technology. the reason they won is they have outsourced blu-ray to everyone
I made the same mistake when DVD writers first came out.
BD recording speeds are really fast, 1X of Blu ray is 4.5 MB/s , so 6x is quite fast, in comparison 1X of DVD recording is 1.32 MB/s.
check out these tables -
DVD - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD-R#Speed
Blu Ray - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu_ray#Recording_speed [The times are for a dual layer disc]
