I want to connect my friends computer remotely and control from my system. However, we have connected through internet and can anyone help me with this and using which software I can do this and let me know if it is secure or not?

Another vote for Windows Messenger. I've it numerous times over the Internet to help people with their computers. It's quick and the other person can see what you are doing and interact as well.

For the most simple experience possible, do Windows Remote Desktop....

If you want something a little more interesting I would suggest a program called "Hamachi". This program creates a virtual LAN between you and another computer. I would suggest getting it from a torrent site though, it looks like you have to enter some weird information in Hamachi's site in order to download the free program.
