Got a new Hauppauge WinTV usb device for a really good price. All the bells and whistles included in the software. Pause TV, PVR remote control, the lot.
So he sets it up to work on the two PCs and it works a charm, everything you could have hoped for working sweet as a nut. Great picture, great sound all the channels, pausing and recording like a good 'un
However when he tries to use it on the laptop it's as jumpy as fuck. Can't get it to work well at all no matter what he tries. He figures it's probly cause there is no dedicated graphics card an just on-board graphics. This make sense, there's plenty of system memory but not enough video memory for a quite complicated job.
So he gets to thinking, what if I pause the tv for 10 seconds or so, kind of use the hard drive to buffer the signal and smooth the whole thing out. It works a charm for him and it's as smooth as feck. Not quite as good a picture but still really very nice.
Not only is he a jammy bastard for getting it so cheap. He is also an idiot for not working that out sooner. It's pretty obvious when you think about it.
