help with adding subtitles to avi film

i downloaded the motorcycle diaries
and want to put it on to disc
and need to add the subtitles to it
and dont know how.
im using xtodvd to convert it then
burning with nero.
so could some1 please tell me how i get the
subtitles on please thx
