If you mean what I think you do, the difference is that they are two seperate pieces of software.
Windows XP Professional is an OS, obviously
Microsoft Plus! Media Center Edition for Windows XP is an enhancement/add-on/whatever you want to call it, for Windows XP
In other words, Plus is designed to be used with Windows XP, AFAIK regardless of edition (i.e. Home/Professional)
Put Simply - Install Plus MCE if you want to & don't worry any more about it![]()

MCE was originally intended to be installed only by OEM computer sellers on PCs with multimedia features. i.e. the computer comes with a capture card, tv-out, remote control, etc. but i guess MS realized they'd make more money by just selling it as a "Plus" CD.
personally, i don't think the MCE programs are all that hot, but to each their own...
