    Before your "insurance" runs out
    call them for a new
-battery (tell them it only lasts 20 mins( sound like a noob)
-dvd drive (say it is stuck)
    -adapter (it is dead)
-keyboard (some keys don't work, you can put it in yourself)

These things they will not check, just send.

Because all these items will break in the long run.

    Any other tips?

Dell laptops aren't bad. Just format them and install your own OEM OS and you're set. I've had no customer service problem with them at all for the past 1 1/2 years.

I've had my del 8300 for 4 yrs running now and the only time I've had to check under the hood was to upgrade my ram. Otherwise, it runs flawlessly.

I have done this more than a number of times and mostly it works fine, but too often newer ones come with Vista installed and then you are stuck as there are no XP drivers for some components to be found. So mostly it works but sometimes you get stuck
