Which CPU has more overheating/cooling issues?

There are other CPU manufacturers, yes.
But I believe Balamm meant (AMD is) "a great alternative to P(entium)".

AMD current chips do run warmer than Intel, but if you get a halfway decent heatsink, you should not have problems with either brand. i believe the Athlon XPs and Pentium 4s both generate less heat than the later Athlon Thunderbirds and Pentium 3s.

high temperatures usually come toward the end of a CPU model's marketing cycle, when they are pushing the design as fast as it can possibly go (and often faster than it was originally intended). i'm kinda interested to hear how warm these 2ghz Celerons run, because it seems a little ridiculous to be pushing an antiquated "budget" chip that fast.

as for an alternative to AMD and Intel, as far as i know there is one other brand of X86 CPU available to consumers-- VIA's C3 line. i think they bought out Cyrix, so this would be the Cyrix 3? they use the same Socket A connection as Athlons, but they are very weak performers. basically the only major advantage that they offer is that they run very cool and do not require a fan to be installed on the heatsink, so if you need to build a very small & quiet computer to just use Office applications or play mp3s & videos, C3 is an interesting alternative. you just wouldn't want to play 3D games or do a lot of audio-video editing with it.

A new heatsink, a new Power Supply(then the one that came with your case)
and better fans(usaly).........

I have used AMD for awhile now and I love it's value and performance
and for pushing Intell into producing decent chips again.
AMD is the main reason Intell isnt sitting on there fat asses putting out
bare minimum products as whas the case for a few years.
The war between them has helped keep innovation and research
at the fore front of chip making today.

Realy all kidding aside the Power Supply that ships with most AMD products
is a cause of a lot of problems.........change it and you cant beat a AMD for
value and performance.

hmm, yeah, like i guessed, VIA is the only company besides Intel & AMD currently making consumer-level X86 CPUs.
