Ummm..Hogster..if that is your REAL name...how will the RIAA know that I'm sharing my files??? on winmx the files are shared out of your 'my music' folder..which would be a good place to keep your own personal cd collection of songs. And as for putting your own cd's on your puter..last I checked, it was still legal. Have a nice day sweetheart!
...the files are shared out of your 'my music' folder...

If you are "sharing" your 'my music' folder, there in lies the problem.....SHARING your music!

I think the excuse of "well, those MP3s are from my personal CD collection, and were not meant to be shared" will not stand up too well in court....you know the old saying - 'Ignorance of the law is no excuse'.

Many of us may be committing offenses every day without realizing it.

We are probably all guilty of having broken the law at some time in our lives – how many of us creep above the speed limit when driving the car to the office? But there is a growing number of crimes we may be committing obliviously when using our computers. The old maxim 'ignorance of the law is no excuse' still holds true, yet in today's computerized world it is often difficult to know exactly what the law is. The Internet, by offering us international communication, has also created many grey areas. Something that is acceptable in one country may be deemed a crime elsewhere. Let's consider some of the more common situations that occur in the normal office environment. How guilty are you?

Regarding the Internet - Where does one begin? It is a shame that something as useful as the World Wide Web is littered with the dregs of humanity. What was once a vision to widen the horizons of everyone's knowledge has turned into a pornographer's / file-sharer's paradise.

Simple searches, for say, types of fruit, can take you to a pornographic website where you can be faced with sexually explicit photographs rather than the banana split you were expecting. You immediately leave that site in disgust but where are the pictures? Ten to one those pictures, unknown to you, now reside on your hard disk drive! You may, depending on your country of residence, be guilty of any number of offenses including possession, publishing and keeping pornographic material – and what about those bomb making articles you accidentally downloaded?!

So how do you avoid committing these 'offenses'? You probably can't, although it is debatable whether the appropriate authorities would wish to prosecute for some of these infringements. Of course common sense should prevail, but it is wise to think about the possible implications next time you reach for the keyboard!

Something for you to think about.

    Tchau!

I thought you are legally entitled to make a back up copy of anything, be it a video, cd, games etc.... i thought it was just illegal to share.

so followin this it is not illegal to put a copy on your computer, it is just illegal to put in a place where otheres can freely access it, i.e you "My Shared Folder" directory?
