I can explain why some look like some of the old ones - A lot of the more common ones (e.g. smile) are in the stock list of smilies in the Invision Power Board software - They'd be common in any IPB hardly customised 
The non-stock but familiar (e.g. the devil) is hard to say why both of us got them - I've no idea how they got in so I'm not gonna theorise on that.
However - VB, I'd seriously recommend you consult Tite-Wad/titey on his smilies, as his have been quality practically every time. I'll post a list of them he gave me a while back as soon as I can
