    any more ?

P.S can we also have some SD and HD x264 CRF 18 /CRF 21 encoded content links this season from the regular encoders ** as fuzzy Xvid and 2pass x264 encoding are so last decade...*

    dark,

This may need to be a sticky...or a topic in a different area. However, I would really like a dumb-down explaination (if you do not mind of course), of how CRF 1-pass can produce as good visual results as a 2-pass.

Dark Shikari said: The only thing that 2-pass does is figure out what CRF to use on the second pass to get the filesize you want.

I set the x264 encoder for CRF of 20 with veryslow preset. Encode, then use MediaInfo to look at bitrate achieved. Then encode with 2-pass and set final size to achieve approxiamately same bitrate. The CRF will "look" as good? It was my impression the 1st pass of a 2-pass helps the encoder determine bit allocation per frame (from the total available bitrate). I remember you saying the x264 CRF also uses the MB tree and has lookahead..but is it as effective as 2-pass? /quote

Dark Shikari said:It's not merely "as effective", it's identical; the ".mbtree" statsfile is just a backup of the lookahead data from the first pass, which is then read out in the second pass to avoid doing it again."

LMAO "Wed Jan 27, 2010 1:08 pm current x264 Movie Scene Rules... 3.2) Must use a minimum encode of 2 passes....." and many more LOL's in that official Scene text too.

, you know you're encoding it wrong when the current German x264 CRF 20 HD (and even generic x264 CRF 21 SD) encodes are visually better AND yet have a Smaller file size than your stupid super high placebo 2pass x264 (and fuzzy Xvid) encodes, no shit sherlock.

remember grabbing a current ffmpeg from
    http://ffmpeg.arrozcru.org/autobuilds/
    and a simple
    ffmpeg.exe -i myDVB.ts -flags +global_header -vcodec libx264 -crf 18 -acodec aac -ac 2 -ab 192000 -strict experimental -vpre hq -vpre veryfast -refs 3 -threads 4 MYCRF18.mp4
works for any DVB Transport stream or other file you might have.

just change the input name and the output MYCRF18.mp4 to what ever container you want .mp4 , .mkv

change the -vpre veryfast for a -vpre fast or -vpre slow for a better encode at a slower/smaller speed/ size and/or increase/decrease the CRF value by one or two....to get the balance of quality to speed you like.

and for any demuxed dts sound files you might want to also convert to generic matching AAC audio and include, a simple
ffmpeg -i 00029.track_4352.dts -strict experimental -vn -acodec aac -ac 2 -ar 48000 -ab 192k 2ch-aac.aac does the job for a quick conversion too for remuxing into an AVC/AAC.Mp4 container that any Xbox30 etc can then play, or .mkv if you prefer on other HW.

windows user's may need to make a dir
c:\usr\local\share\ffmpeg\ and copy the supplied whatever.ffpreset files into it so ffmpeg can find them if your running ffmpeg from somewhere on drive c:
