Thread: The 1080i Against 720p Debate

  1. #1
Well currently have a set with 1080p resolution. Though broadcast is limited to 1080i and appears to be for awhile. Had TV set to show 1080i when setting things up. Recently changed it to 720p and thinking it looks better. If thats true than there aren't any benefits in having the 1080p set. Since I don't have a BluRay or a PS3 console and no plans to. So I could get a 720p set in a better brand for less and get a PC to hookup to it with the savings. Wondering what others think.

I spoke with someone just now about this and the had called the cable company and they said 1080p would prob start this year so I would think that having 1080p would be better because this way one is ready for future enhancements instead of being OK for now

Well I don't think thats true. They don't even have it on the table yet.

I think it really matters on the size of your tv. 60"+ the 1080i will prob start to look bad, esp in high action feeds. You can never go wrong with 1080p plus thats where its heading anyways.

But as for 1080i vs 720p, again, i think id go with 720p with high action (sports) stuff, 1080 on non-action stuff. Its gross, but i love how i can see people's pores and everything on the tv

Well they are 37 sets. Though again don't find any point in getting the 1080P set for more when nothing is going to played in that resolution anyway.

So funny you would say that, I like to see that too. All the imperfections and the "caked on" makeup" on lots of the so called hot actresses. Thought I was alone on this one

Also the way I look at it you own a TV for a good number of years so IMO I still think it's better to have a TV for a few hundred more that can handle whatever may come out in the next 3, 4 even 5 years.

from what i know, singaboiy's right about the size of the tv being the determinant as to whether you need a 1080p tv or not. i've read quite a few reviews on the comparison between 1080p and 720p and the general conclusion has been that unless u have a tv upwards of 50", u're really not going to notice much of a difference. so if you had say a 30" 1080p tv as opposed to a 720p 30" tv u're wasting money.
