hi there !
for large video files that have to be encoded from Avi to Dvd-R
go for a top end video editing prog like Sonic Foundry Vegas Video 4+DVD or
Adobe Premiere 6.5. they handle any size with about 3 mouse clicks.
a smaller prog that also doe's this is InterVideo WinDVD recorder.

You'll have to convert the AVI files to MPEG-2 which can be accomplished via FlasK MPEG. Then to burn to DVD just use your standard burning application such as Nero.

i use arcsoft showbiz, it came with my XP, i use it to make perfect rips from avi to dvd. u can also use it to convert avi's into MPEG-2 and MPEG-4
