That's just plain nasty, I thought there must be something special about it being a 1976 AMC Pacer.
If you were locked inside my car you wouldn't get out with just a 4"" pocket knife. There are all sorts of little failsafes to prevent you from locking yourself in the car without the keys, but it is possible (with determination) to get round them or for someone else to lock you in.

There are "child proof locks" on the rear doors of my truck as well lynx... but those gizmos didn't exist in the '70s to the best of my knowledge.
