i was skeptical going into this film, but it turned out to be fairly decent. there really isn't much to this movie and they keep it simple. there's only like 3 filmed locations. lol, well that's what it seemed like. the beach, the hotel and then the ruins. not too much flash and little to no cgi either.

basically american tourists find themselves @ a sacred mayan ruins and once there the locals will not let them leave to stop from further contamination of the dangers that lurk within the ruins. blood, mild gore, and side shottage of sum boobage. i liked it. 8/10

I just read the book (same author wrote A Simple Plan, BTW) and it was harrowing.
The "sacred Mayan ruins" was just a hill- possibly the site of an old mine of some sort- in the book...it's not explained in detail.
Now I might see the film but doubt it could be as brutal and depressing as the book.

    I enjoyed it (6.5/10) .
Not a predictable horror-by-numbers affair, it had an unusual story, although the locals relationship with the bad thing should have been explored/explained more . Fot the most part, the characters reactions to their circumstances seemed plausible enough . Most of the scenes being in daylight was unusual, but worked, a bonus being better viewing of the gorgeous Laura Ramsey .

    Wow.
I just read the synopsis of the movie and they made some pretty big changes.
    Not for the better, IMO.
