$19.95 is an arbitrary number. There are other providers then Giganews, don't get me wrong, I just feel (and I'm sure Sgt. and others here do also) that Giganews is THE BEST.

(By the way, I think it's $19.95 for the first month then $24.95 afterwards. )

Your best bet is to check out the Usenet section.

PM me if you have anymore questions mate.

GXice: What do you mean? While NZBs are somewhat like torrents, they are not exactly the same. (obviously)

You don't need to download a NZB for everything that you want to download. I usually either

    a) update headers frequently
    b) use NewsLeecher (or BinSearch if you don't have NewsLeecher) with SuperSearch and download from there.

You do not need to use NZBs for everything you need .. in fact, the reason people bitch about the pretimes of things on Usenet is because of the slow NZB creation .. however, things are uploaded to Usenet but up to a couple hours later is the NZB made. This is why headers are helpful.

Did that help or did I not answer you question at all?

    /me ponders

For the top of the line @ Giganews it's $19.95 for the first month and $29.95 from there on out.
Please do not randomly PM asking for invites as I have none to give out. Have a nice day.

I dont have unlimited monthly download quota, so I can't really download headers all the time. It chews up too many MB's. Other than that, I'll looking into NewsLeecher. Thanks.

I've still got their email saying retention is going to be 90 days

Normally limited retention, speed capped & connections reduced.

Don't take an ISPs version of Giganews over a purchased account from Giganews, two totally different things.

And, of course, Giganews has all my movie needs covered.

I consider myself somewhat of a minimalist (meh not really) and I use Usenet for mostly HD, but also DVDrs and XviDs. However, sometimes I can't find stuff on Usenet (which is rare, considering I don't put in a request for it) and usually it's on KaraGarga.

And yes, eight months of retention is crazy.

Never any speed issues, don't have to seed back (it makes me feel good inside knowing that I made the right choice with Usenet because my download speed is 1.7mb/s and upload around 40kb/s), and NZBs.

Now if only it was possible to be able to pre things on Usenet

Think about it .. and I was thinking about this the other day ..

Why is it that topsites and torrent sites get busted while Usenet lives on? Usenet has a backbone of about 1000000000000TB (maybe I'm making that up, but trust me thats a lot) and nothing happens to them .. and Usenet's backbone is obviously and most definitely bigger then any dump site I have ever been on.

    Take that.
Can't disagree with any of that

a.b.kg rocks big time as well

You need a client (like utorrent is to torrents, newsleecher & newsbin are clients I use for usenet), Giganews is akin to a BT Site, there are other options of which all are prob cheaper, but retention & speed are words you will get to know and Giganews just beats all others on them 2 scores hands down.

I use newsleecher for searching for files & filenames, and I use Newsbin for downloading headers for my favourite groups as not everything gets reported.

You need a par2 recovery tool for repairing RAR files, but it is no different to downloading from a torrent site - the resultant files are exactly the same.

Once you figure out usenet and how to search properly, you will not look back.

I guess if NZB's were as easy to find as torrents, I would use Usenet more. Any tips?
I only use NZBs as a last resort, use the search functions, as not everything gets reported anyway, tons of material is just sitting there not indexed.

Filename search is the best way for beginners, copy the filename from wherever you need to, drop it into your search engine (I use newsleecher with supersearch) and bingo, take BitmeTV eps, it is always on usenet first, find the filename from the torrent, search - highlight - download - unrar, no need to seed back and you can be watching it before others have downloaded it from BitmeTV.

Newzbin.com is a nzb site I use, only because I have done for years, might be better available but I am so used to how they do things it does me.

I think Goem is underrated and is an excellent source for movies. As is Zamunda...The smaller, private movie trackers are nothing in comparison.
