At one point in the movie, when Hancock is in the hospital, Mary tells him during a conversation about their past that he is the "insurance policy of the gods" and that he was built to save. In Greek mythology, Zeus was hidden away by Rhea when he was born so that Cronus would not eat him as he had Zeus's siblings. Zeus later saved his siblings, the Olympians from Cronus. Essentially Zeus was an insurance policy taken out by Rhea to ensure that her children, the gods, would one day be freed from Cronus. Rhea despised that Cronus devoured her children when they were born.
