Thread: Howdy, all! Grabit/Newsgroups question

  1. #1
So I've recently returned to using newsgroups after about a 6 year hiatus.

I'm using Grabit, and I've got a couple of questions...

The search feature is really quite nice, but you can only search for a couple of items and only download a few as well. To get that limit raised, you've gotta pay. Is there some easy way to search newsgroups without having to fork over more money? I've searched on Google for just plain "usenet search" and typically find nothing useful.
Also, when I do a search on occasion, I'll locate a file I want to get. Instead of doing a direct download from the search, I'll opt to go directly to the group I've subscribed to, do a full-update, and download the file myself. Well, 100% of the time I've tried that I haven't been able to locate the file. I'm using Giganews which has one hell of a retention rate so the file has to be still be there. Anyone got suggestions?
(Oh and my PC or grabit tend to crash on occasion when doing full-updates..which is sad)
    T'anks!

Search engines are my primary source.

    I like http://www.newzleech.com/

Some like binsearch but I find it to return poor results in an ugly format - http://www.binsearch.info/

Also, I'd recommend ditching Grabit and getting Alt.Binz. You can find the latest version on Usenet (0.28.1)

Totally with you on newzleech. The only thing binsearch has over newzleech is the watchlist.

Btw, my sig has a(n) RS link for Alt.Binz.

edit: changed the RS link to Megaupload as RS is so crap for free users now. fu**ing hate RS now.

Ah! Newzleech is exactly what I needed. Thanks.
I swear I used this before with, like, Newsbin or something and had less than favorable results.
