atully I think I got brainwahsed I was a Punk fan in my school days as soon as I got to Music Courses at UNI the guys used to bad me out for liking punk saying its simple learn something thats complex

PUNK= GBH, Sex Pistols, TSOL, Adolescents, US Bombs, UK Subs, and of course, The Clash... but some would have referred to the clash as Mod... and the mod scene would have also included the Who and a number of other Ska-ish bands, which in fact is where ska came from... from mod... it all stems from everything.
Rock is well of course Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Zeppelin of course and Rush.. and you can go and include early Judas priest and Rush is definitely rock.... along with The Police and Pink Floyd, and how about Jethro Tull... although Tull did get the best Heavy Metal award ... whatever!!!!

Punk is usually above 160bpm, almost always 4/4, got a different technic in harmonization, singing than rock.
Dl "Stand by me" from NoFX and hear a classic turned punk, it's all there.
