i thought i knew the difference between punk/rock until i checked out this site
but of course its just somebody elses opinion-still its pretty cool & informative.
....i still think punks-all in the upperlip snarl and a f**k you mentality.

i thought the clash and sex pistols and that were punk, but sum41 and blink182 call themselves punk rock

Punk is a way of life by itself. It is not a term naturally tied only to music. Punk music developed as a byproduct of punk culture. There are no definable characteristics involved in the making of punk music. Any style of music can be considered punk. It just depends on if the band members consider themselves to be punk or not, really. BTW, anyone can call themselves punk. Hence, all of the bogus "punk" music out there (Blink-182). Only a few people ever actually take on a punk lifestyle.
