Thread: Signal Quality Loss/deterioration

  1. #1
as some of you already know, i should be getting adsl by next wednesday
i got the modem (alcatel usb (please don't say ethernet is better than usb, i'm not bothered...)) today and i tried to setup the modem and the filters earlier on.
however, i came to a problem in that my phone jack/socket is rather a distance from the computer
this means i need to buy an rj11 adsl extension lead for between my modem and filter.
the distance between the comp and the filter is just a little over 10 metres.
i've been looking for extension leads and i've found either a 10 or a 15m cable.
now, the 10m cable is quite possibly going to be too short, though i could move the computer around a little to suit i suppose.
however, i'd prefer things to stay as they are currently, therefore i'd like to buy the 15m cable

however, i've been thinking about the deterioration of the signal strength caused by increasing the length of the line.
i've really got no idea how big the quality loss will be because of this increase, and if anyone could tell me if the difference is appreciable, or if it's hardly noticable, that'd be great
    thanks in advance

I had a big extension cord between my filter and modem, (15m I think, though most of it was just coiled under my desk) and it was absolutely fine, I had no problems whatsoever
